The Writer Clubhouse Studio specializes in narrative nonfiction, memoir, and personal essays—writing that transforms lived experience into stories that matter. We focus on developing authentic voices and serious craft while honoring the truth that emerges from life experience. Though our expertise centers on these forms, all genres are welcome in our studio space. What matters most is your commitment to finding and strengthening your unique voice.
Absolutely. In fact, the Studio was specifically designed with returning writers in mind. Your life experience is an asset, not a liability. The time away has given you perspective and depth that infuses your writing with wisdom younger writers haven't yet acquired. Our approach helps you reconnect with your voice while providing the structure and community to sustain your return to writing.
The Studio welcomes both journalers and publication-focused writers with equal enthusiasm. Many participants begin with personal exploration and later discover stories they want to share more widely. Others remain dedicated to private writing as a tool for meaning-making and personal growth. Our focus is on helping you strengthen your authentic voice regardless of your destination. Both paths are honored here.
Unlike critique groups that focus on finding what's wrong with your writing, the Studio approach begins by identifying what's working and builds from your strengths. We focus more on generative practice and voice development than critical feedback. When we do provide direction, it's to amplify what makes your writing distinctly yours, not to enforce external standards. Our approach creates a space where your authentic voice can emerge and strengthen without being diminished by premature criticism.
No formal experience is required—only a willingness to engage authentically with your writing process. The Studio welcomes writers at all levels, from those just beginning to those with publication credits. What matters most is your openness to discovering and developing your voice. Your life experience itself is valuable preparation for meaningful writing, regardless of your technical background.
Absolutely. In fact, writing that emerges from decades of lived experience often carries unique wisdom and perspective that our culture desperately needs. Your stories can preserve meaning that would otherwise be lost, bridge generational understanding, and offer insights that come only with time and reflection. The Studio helps you transform your experiences into writing that resonates with readers of all ages while honoring your unique perspective.
Start with the session that speaks most directly to your current needs. If you're looking to establish a sustainable writing practice, "Entering the Year Aligned" provides an excellent foundation. If you have specific stories you're ready to craft for readers, "Writing the Personal Essay for Publication" offers targeted guidance. Each session is designed as both a standalone experience and a potential entry point to our larger community. You'll find value regardless of where you begin.
Our current session prices reflect our beta launch and will increase as we expand our offerings. Join now to lock in our lowest rates while helping shape the future of the Studio experience.

With over 20 years of experience teaching writing at the university level and guiding writers through personal narrative development, Amy Lou brings both academic expertise and authentic compassion to the Studio experience.
As an award-winning author whose work has been published in Literary Journals, Newspapers, Magazines, Anthologies, four books of nonfiction, and more, Jenkins brings that experience to you. She's taught writing at universities, workshops, and writing conferences, and wants writers to find their voice, rather than be beaten down by critique. She wants you to exploit your talent and voice to live and write with alignment, a growing set of skills, and a connection to the wisdom and creativity you possess. She teaches the In/Out method to keep the writing engine going and the JUMP method to finish a project. They are both proven processes.
Amy Lou understands the journey from personal reflection to public sharing. Her book "Every Natural Fact" won the Midwest Independent Publishers Association Prize for nonfiction and more than a dozen writing honors and awards.
Amy Lou founded Writer Clubhouse Studio after recognizing that many talented writers—particularly those with decades of life experience—needed a different approach than traditional workshops offered. Her mission is to help writers of all backgrounds discover and strengthen their authentic voices.
Join our next Studio session and experience the difference between being told how to fix your writing and discovering how to find your voice.
